JEBEL AL QARAH

A popular attraction in Hofuf, Saudi Arabia where it is known for its intricate natural caves.

The Al Qarah cave or popularly known as the Judas cave is located in Hofuf, a city in Al Hasa which is a part of the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. It is an approximately 2hr drive from Al Khobar.


According to a myth, the cave was named Judas cave because it was believed that Judas hang himself here after betraying Jesus. However, there is no mention of the myth about Judas and how the cave was named after him.


The Al Qarah hills are rock formations made up of limestone and sandstones. By the passage of time, water and wind transformed this hill into an abode of caves and fascinating landscape. A tall and linear cave passage, a major cave entrance with labyrinths of pathways inside. Jebel Qarah has almost vertical cliffs and steep-walled caves. These caves are known to be cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
